absolutely. may it all be for the best. I do have serious questions as to our capacity to resolve many of the long standing problems facing us today: overpopulation, increasingly diminished genetic varieties in food production..growing inequality..huge long etc. Hopefully life AS IS will be safeguarded inspite of our dubious moral/ethical record so far.

Like I said: a controlled environment. Scientists can potentially get results faster if they test such tampering in an environment that can’t affect the world outside it. Of course, there may be risks that cannot be foreseen but if I ever learned anything: it’s that you got to take risks to get things done fast and effectively.

Sir…such a thing cannot be supposed. This unfortunately is not about a new recipee for salami. I believe the restauration of tissues and the reversal of pathologies in tissues in any part of the organism, is enough of a field for progress during the next 50 years. Tampering with gene sequences, replacing genes, cannot be embarked upon without knowing the reason for each gene to be AS it is…there are issues concerning their interaction in the d. helix that are simply not known.

  4. Doofberg3000 says:

Then I suppose there’s no harm in trying it out in a controlled environment.

mutations have always provided the material for change and adaptation. Creating a different rate of mutation artificially, one that has never been seen in the natural evolution through spontaneous mutation…is inviting and altered rate mutations…no one knows what that would do, it would be like the sudden temperature change on earth.. possibly pandoras box.
